Terms & Conditions

1) About these Terms & Conditions

The following terms and conditions apply to services operated by Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited. Specific terms and conditions for special services may apply.

All services are operated and provided by Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited (hereinafter referred to as “the railway” or “Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited”) unless otherwise stated. Services operated or provided by external parties are subject to the terms and conditions outlined by the operator.

2) Terms & Conditions

1. Bookings & Payment

Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited reserves the right to withhold any tickets and/or services until full payment has been received.

1.1 On the day sales

1.1.1 All tickets purchased on the day of travel must be paid in full by but not limited to the following methods: cash, credit/debit card, or cheque.

1.2 Advanced Sales/Online Bookings

1.2.1 All tickets, including group bookings, purchased through advanced bookings must be paid in full by but not limited to the following methods: cash, credit/debit card, or cheque.

1.2.2 All online bookings are processed by third party ticketing agents. Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited and its ticketing agents reserve the right to charge a booking/processing fee on all bookings made for any of its services. Prior notice will be given should a booking fee apply.

1.3 Private Charters / Group Bookings

1.3.1 Any private charter or group booking not made through the methods outlined in Clause 1.2.1 for any of the railway’s services must have a minimum 50% deposit at the time of booking, with the remaining balance payable no later than 21 working days prior to the date of travel.

1.4 Reservations

1.4.1 At the present time, Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited cannot accept nor make reservations for any of its services.

1.5 Postal & Telephone Bookings

1.5.1 At the present time, Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited cannot accept bookings made via postal or telephone.

1.5.2 Bookings may be taken via telephone through the use of third party companies. Please refer to the specific terms & conditions for the service in question.

1.6 Booking Deadlines

1.6.1 Closure of advanced bookings for services operated by the railway will normally occur 1 hour prior to the scheduled departure time for the service being provided. Special services may vary. Please refer to the specific terms & conditions for the service in question.

1.6.2 Any sales made after the closure of advance bookings can only be processed through the Ticket Office at Brechin station.

1.7 Booking Amendments

1.7.1 For amendments required for advanced sale tickets valid for “Day Out With Thomas” only, the ticketing agent must be contacted. Terms and conditions associated with this service are provided by the ticketing agent.

1.7.2 For any amendments required for advanced bookings for all services (with the exception of Day Out With Thomas), the railway must be notified at least 7 business days prior to the date of the scheduled service. No changes can be made after this period has elapsed. The railway can be contacted via the email address supplied on the website.

1.7.3 For all amendments, a minimum admin fee of £5.00 is chargeable. Certain special events may have a higher fee. This does not include any additional booking fees.

1.7.4 Tickets received via postal services must be returned to the railway via the address stated on the website before any amendments can be carried out. If the amended tickets are required to be returned to the customer via post, a stamped addressed envelope must be supplied with the returned tickets.

1.8 Booking Cancellations

Clause 1.8.1 is only valid if no specific terms regarding booking cancellations are stated for a service provided by the railway. Refer to the terms and conditions outlined by the ticketing agent.

1.8.1 Cancellations will be considered for bookings made through advanced ticket sales if at least 10 business days’ notice is given. Cancellations made before this time will be subject to a full refund minus any booking fees. Cancellations requested after this period will not be considered and a refund will not be given.

2. Services

2.1 Alterations & Suspensions

2.1.1 Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited shall make every effort to operate the scheduled services. However, Caledonian Railway reserves the right to alter, curtail or suspend any service without prior notice or change motive power.

2.1.2 In the event that a service operated by Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited is suspended, compensation shall be offered to customers whom had purchased tickets through advanced sales.

2.2 Missed Departure

2.2.1 All train services will depart at the scheduled times. Passengers must arrive promptly to prevent missing their departure. Refunds cannot be issued in the event of a missed departure.

2.2.2 Customer that miss their scheduled departure time may be transferred onto the next departure if spaces are available - this may be subject to a charge at the Ticket Office. If no spaces or subsequent departure times are available, no refund will be given.

2.3 Non-Arrival

2.3.1 On the day of travel, if one or more member(s) of a booking are unable to travel, no refund shall be given for those members.

2.3.2 Refunds will not be given in the event that customers miss their departure time due to weather conditions, “acts of God”, national disasters or any other circumstances outwith Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited’s control.

2.4 Tickets

2.4.1 Tickets purchased through online bookings can be presented through the following methods: shown on a smart device, printed on A4 paper, or via tickets received from the ticketing agent via post. Tickets must be shown to the ticket inspector on the train.

2.4.2 Entry to Day Out With Thomas services are via a valid train ticket only. These must be presented at the entrance when requested by staff. Failure to adhere to this will result in denied entry onto the premises.

2.4.3 Tickets can be reissued by the Ticket Office at Brechin station. This may be subject to an administration fee.

2.5 Boarding / Departures

2.5.1 Unless specific instructions are given for a service, it is recommended that all passengers board at least 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time. All passengers are to have boarded 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time, after this time Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited may refuse entry to any passengers who attempt to board, or once the train has been cleared for departure, as deemed necessary by the platform staff.

2.5.2 Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited aims to depart all trains on time. As such, trains will not be held for any late coming passengers.

2.6 Refusal of Carriage

2.6.1 Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited reserves the right to refuse carriage to any person(s) without warning, even if a ticket has been purchased/issued.

3 Attractions

3.1 During special services, additional attractions may be made available e.g. bouncy castles, fairground rides etc. These attractions may be provided by external organisations. Attractions operated or provided by external parties are subject to terms and conditions outlined by the operator.

3.2 Attractions are used at the customer’s own risk and children must be supervised at all times. As such Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited accepts no responsibility for any personal loss, injury or damage to any items.

4 Code of Conduct

4.1 Nuisances, Anti-Social Behaviour or Unsafe Acts

4.1.1 Any person(s) on Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited’s premises that are causing offence, nuisance or alarm to others through anti-social behaviour, or by acting in a manner that is deemed to be unsafe or posing a safety and/or security risk, will be removed from the premises immediately. Repeat offenders will be expelled from the site permanently.

5 Unattended Items & Lost Property

5.1 Lost Property

5.1.1 Any item(s) lost by persons on the railway premises will be held for a maximum period of 3 months. After this time, the item(s) will be destroyed. Enquiries regarding lost items can be made at the Ticket Office at Brechin station.

5.2 Unattended Items

5.2.1 Any item(s) left unattended on the railway premises are subject to removal and may be destroyed.

6 Personal Injury & Belongings

6.1 Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited accepts no responsibility for personal loss or injury which the railway took reasonable steps to prevent.

6.2 Users of the railway’s car parks and storage facilities (e.g. buggy park) do so at their own risk. Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited cannot be held accountable for any damages or losses incurred.

7 Smoking

7.1 Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited does not permit smoking in any of its buildings (temporary or permanent), any of the entrances to such buildings and all semi‐enclosed areas on its premises. Smoking is also not permitted anywhere on the train services operated. Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited reserves the right to ban smoking throughout its premises.

8 Public Access Areas

8.1 Trespassing

8.1.1 Passengers are only permitted in the car parks, public access buildings and on platforms owned/operated by Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited.

8.2 Access to Non-Public Areas

8.2.1 In the interests of safety and security, Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited does not allow access to its repair/maintenance or storage sheds.

8.2.2 At no point should any passenger leave a public access area and venture onto the tracks (unless using a public foot crossing) or into restricted areas. Any person in breach of this condition may be subject to immediate removal from Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited’s premises and may face a fixed penalty charge.

9 By‐Laws

9.1 All passengers and services operated by Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited are subject to the company by‐laws.

10 Young Persons

10.1 No persons of 15 years and under will be permitted to travel or access services provided by Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited, unless accompanied by an appropriate adult (16 years and above).

11 Revision of Terms & Conditions

11.1 Caledonian Railway Brechin Limited reserves the right to revise these terms & conditions at any time without prior notice.
