Steam trains officially stopped running on the Britain’s mainlines on 11th August 1968, but here at the Caledonian Railway you can once again relive and experience the delights of steam every summer Sunday.
Take a leisurely trip along our four mile branch line and enjoy the views. You can start your journey at either our terminus station in the small town of Brechin of our countryside stop at Bridge of Dun, located about 3 miles west of Montrose.
We offer a range of tickets, from all Day Rovers that permit travel on as many trains as you wish, to day return tickets which allow you to split your journey at either station to give you more time to explore. Single tickets for one way journeys are also available. Journey times between stations are 20 minutes, with a 15 minute stop off at both stations.
The Angus countryside is magnificent at this time of year and at Bridge of Dun station you have the choice to extend your visit to include a walk up to the National Trust property at House of Dun and view its extensive gardens – only a 20 minute walk from our station, or perhaps take a walk to Montrose Basin Local Nature Reserve to see the local wildlife – pick up one of our free “Walks From Bridge of Dun” leaflet from one of our leaflet racks.
Brechin station, located in the heart of the town, is only a short walk away from the High Street, with the Cathedral and Round Tower in Church Street.
Card payments can be accepted in our Brechin ticket office and gift shop. We unfortunately cannot take cards in our Buffets or Bridge of Dun ticket office at the current time. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Free car parking at both stations.
